“Into each life some rain must fall, some days must be dark and dreary.” ~ henry wadsworth longfellow

well, the good people at the weather channel have just informed me that this weekend is going to be stormy, rainy and generally soggy.  i'd say it was also going to be moist, but frankly, i hate that word.  good thing my new hunter wellies came in the mail this week!  so i have devised a weekend plan:  i am going to stay in all weekend and do nothing but read and watch movies.  the only exception is to take chloe for a walk so i can test out the new boots.

i went to barnes and noble today to buy a new book to read this weekend and decided on 'east of eden' by john steinbeck.  its one of my life goals to read all the classics.  not just because i want to kick ass in the literature round of jeopardy, but because these books are classics for a reason.  maybe i can learn something and become a better writer.  i read 'the great gatsby' by f. scott fitzgerald in high school, and so far it is my favorite book of all time.  i also loved 'the old man and the sea' by ernest hemingway.  i started 'wuthering heights' by emily bronte, but haven't finished it yet.  sometimes you just need a break.

its not like i only read classics though.  i had to stop 'wuthering heights' so i could start reading, 'are you there vodka?  it's me chelsea.' by comedienne chelsea handler.  its a great pool read.  i also really enjoy a good gossip magazine from time to time.

so, this weekend i'm going to do nothing but vegitate on the couch in my sweats with my dog, some hot tea, and a good book.  there's nothing like some quality weekend relaxation...

if my weekend could be captured in a picture, i think it would look like this.

my new wellies!!!  my mom has a weakness for red shoes, so i know she'll be jealous of these stunners.

chloe curled up with her favorite poetry book that she took from my mom and dad's house.  this book was printed in 1971 and i'm pretty sure it was a gift to my parents. i have a favorite poem from this book that i once used for a poetry project in a writing class...

The Perfect Year
by Lois  Wyse
It was not a perfect year,
But has there ever been a perfect year?
Has there ever been a year
When all the love and health and fame
We wished for one another
Ever came to pass?

Yet, despite the disappointments
Of these, our complex lives,
We learn to make do
make better
make believe
That better days will come.

And if we do continue to believe
Who is to say
The perfect year
Will not yet be here?

isn't that beautiful?  i wish that i had a flair for writing poetry but, sadly, i don't.  maybe i'll take a poetry class or something.  hmmmm, maybe next weekend...
